Leopard John W., Pvt., Enlisted 4/20/62, Stone Mountain, Present 12/24/64, last entry. PR Applied Gwinnett Co. 4/8/95. Born 6/36 in SC. A resident of GA since about 1852. Has a wife and 3 children, a boy age 31, a girl age 36, and another girl age 26. Children are all married with families and support themselves by farming. Leopard stated that he was present at the surrender. Witness J.T. Atkinson stated that they were close neighbors, and that Leopard served 3 years and was a good and faithful soldier, and was discharged at the surrender. (J.T. Atkinson left the command mid 1864) Leopard applied in Walton Co. 2/9/01. He stated that he had been a resident of Gwinnett Co. until 1899, and that he was a farmer, wife living, supported by son. He again stated that he had been present at the surrender. Witness J.I. Green of Gwinnett Co. was wounded 10/19/64, and he stated that he understands that the applicant was present at the surrender. Witness A. Garner of Gwinnett Co. was captured 15 days before the surrender, and he stated that Leopard was present at that time. Leopard drew a pension in Walton Co 1907.
