Medlock age 13, born AL, living Gwinnett Co. in the household of Martha Medlock, a widow and a farmer. 1870 Census list W.H. Medlock age 33, born AL, living Forsyth Co. According to family information William Medlock died on 8 February 1910and his widow, Permelia Medlock filed for her widow's pension. She was granted the pension. In 1914 the state of Alabama, Pension Bureau brought charges against Permelia stating that her husband was a deserter, therefore, she was not eligible for a pension. After several hearings and affidavits, in a decision on 4 February 1915 Judge F. S. Ferguson of the Morgan County, Alabama State Board of Pension Examiners approved the pension in question in case #4488 with the comments "W. H. Medlock, the husband of the beneficiary, is charged with having deserted from Thunderbolt, July 18th, 1864. Mrs. Medlock offers her own and the affidavit of a comrade of her husband which, by inference, contradict the charge. The charge itself is rather vague and I give the pensioner the benefit of the doubt. I order that she is eligible to the pension."
