The many names and designations for Georgia units at different times makes it confusing to research. Hopefully this will clarify things.

6th Regiment Georgia State Troops - Company F (1861)
(initially 4th Regiment, 1st Brigade)
Served October 1861 - May 1862. Most of the men enlisted in the 9th Regiment Georgia Light Artillery - Company D
10th Regiment Georgia Militia - Company H (1861)
Mustered out May 1862. Most of the men enlisted in 36th.
Cobb's Legion Cavalry (9th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry) - Company E
"Roswell ..." recruited in Lawrenceville ... May, 1862.
16th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Cavalry - Company D, I, K (later 13th Regiment Georgia Cavalry)
... added several companies including I and K and redesignated the 13th Regiment Georgia Cavalry in May 1864.
9th Regiment Georgia Light Artillery - Company D
Formed in Lawrenceville by Tyler Macon Peeples May 1862.
12th Regiment Georgia Light Artillery - Company C (3rd)
(also as 12th Battalion Georgia Infantry)
Formed in Stone Mountain and trained in Augusta in May 1862. The unit never had artillery and served primarily as coastal defense.

(also as Lee's Battalion)
38th Regiment Tennessee Volunteer Infantry - Company F
Formed at Camp Abington near Memphis, TN of 128 men from Gwinnett, Walton, and Jackson counties who gathered at Midway Methodist Church and mustered in up there. The 38th also included several Alabama companies.
